さて皆さんいくつ意味が分かりますか？
①have a go at
試しにやってみる、という意味のイディオム。Give it a try、とにた表現。
例：I would like to have a go at making my own pasta at some point.
②take advantage of the confusion
混乱に乗じて、どさくさに紛れて、という意味。その他にもTake Advantage系は、Take advantage of one’s weakness, Take unfair advantage of、といった表現が紹介されていました。
例：You can’t do stuff like that by taking advantage of the confusion.
③tear oneself away
いやいややめる。後ろ髪を引かれる、といったニュアンスの表現。tearはここでは涙ではなく引き裂く、という意味で使われています。
例：I tore myself away from Zelda to finish up my essay.
④zone out
ボーッとする、という意味。オンライン会議で聞いていなかった時などに使えそうですね笑
例：Are you tired? No, I was just zoning out.
⑤slack off
気を抜く、手を抜く、だらける、という意味。類語はlazy, carelessなど。

⑥try to impress
〜によく思われようとする。好印象を与えようとする、という意味。例文では女性を、となっていますが、誰からもよく思われようとする、という意味で八方美人という表現はchat GPTで調べてみたところ以下のようなものがあるようです。合わせて覚えましょう！

例：Stop trying to impress women. Just be yourself.
⑦blend in
溶け込む、馴染むという意味。昔インドネシアを担当した際にはインドネシア社会に溶け込むためにバティックを買ったりしたものでした。。。
例：I’m a minority here and look different, and I find it difficult to blend in.
⑧preconception
先入観。類語として、Presumption、Bias、Prejudice、も覚えましょう！
例：Let’s break away from the preconception that we Japanese are shy.
⑨second nature
身についている、癖になっている、という意味。
例：I guess it’s second nature for me to fake a smile when I can’t catch what’s being said in English.
⑩get back at
仕返しをする、見返す、という意味の表現。
例：I want to have a successful career to get back at my high school classmates.
