キレッキレ英語第4弾！今回のテーマは”世の中の真実を語る”です！（本中での章では第９章）
なんか仰々しいタイトルですが、この章にも普段使いできる表現がたくさんありました！それでは早速見ていきましょう^^

①the situation doesn’t allow it
②it’s a toss-up
③It cuts both ways

それでは見ていきましょう！
①the situation doesn’t allow it
仕方がなかった、不可抗力だった、という表現。非常に英語的な無生物主語の表現。なんとなく、こういう無生物主語の表現が英語で言い訳を簡単にしているような気がするのは私だけ？笑
例：I didn’t want to but the situation didn’t allow it.
②it’s a toss-up
“イチかバチか、運任せ”という表現。toss-upはコイン投げのこと。おしゃれ表現ですね〜
例：We did everything we could. It’s a toss-up now.
③It cuts both ways
“諸刃の剣”という表現。類似表現でdouble edged sword、というものもあります。
例：Allowing kids to use smartphone have pros and cons. It cuts both ways.
④have a marketable skill
“潰しの効くスキル”という意味。転職で大事なやつですね。。財務会計経理、あとはM&Aとか英語とかモデリングとか、、？皆さんの思うmarketableスキルは何でしょう？
例：Once you have mastered this, you will have a marketable skill
⑤not pay the bill
〜では食べていけない、という表現。これも無生物主語。
例：I figured that writing novels doesn’t pay the bills.
⑥It serves you right
自業自得、因果応報という意味。Serveというと仕える、という意味を思い浮かべますが、この文脈では“報いを与える”という意味になります。
例：He was rude to everyone, and now nobody wants to help him. It serves him right.
⑦You (only) get out what you put in
やったことしか出せない、努力は報われる、という意味の表現。似た表現に”garbage in, garbage out”というものがありますね。ゴミのようなインプットではゴミのようなアウトプットしか出ない、という意味。
例：Whatever you do, keep in mind that you will only get out what you put in.
⑧You always lose for a reason
負けに不思議な負けなし、という意味。for a reasonという表現はこれ以外でも“当然の理由があって”という意味で汎用性のある表現ですね。
例：Accept the fact that you failed. You always lose for a reason.
⑨Any action is better than none
やらない後悔よりやる後悔。そのまんま系表現ですが、人を勇気付ける時とかに使えるかも！
例：Not doing anythingcould be an option, but any action is better than none.
⑩Step back and see the whole picture
一歩引いて大局をみよ、という意味。ビジネスよりの表現ですね。
例：It is difficult to step back and see the whole picture when you get hurt.
